Cyberia elects new president, assembly

With all votes counted, independent David Catchpole defeated incumbent Michael Fors for President on Tuesday, closing out Cyberia's final election of 2007 in what could only be described as a lackluster campaign.

Cyberians also elected two new, but experienced, deputies to the National Assembly: Neil Spall (independent) and Peter Krembs (of the capitalist Freedom Party). They will join David Oatney (Conservative) who was re-elected to his seat.

Impromptu charter commission in Kernsopolis

Kernsopolis residents this week spontaneously began drafting a charter for Cyberia's capital city.

It looks like the FDC will adopt a council-manager form of government. Everyone will be a member of the City Council until Kernsopolis' population reaches 12. Then there will be STV elections every three months. The size of the council will be one-third of the city population. The council, in turn, will elect a Mayor.

One participant has proposed letting new citizens vote in local elections before the 28-day wait for federal voting eligibility is fulfulled.

Maps of the Commonwealth presented

Today Acting President Fors presented the current maps of the Commonwealth. Since Cyberia is a member of the Geographical Standards Organization, the maps are provided by them. In an exclusive comment to the Cyberian Broadcasting Cooperative, the Acting President said:

"I see mapping as a part of any good simulation. If I get elected we will adapt these maps to include more detailed topographical features, rivers, borders, cities, towns and provinces."

Midterm elections July 2007

The July 2007 midterm elections saw the return of deputies Jack Santucci (SDP - Kernsopolis) and David Oatney (C - Windsor Islands). Deputy David Catchpole was replaced by Dep. Michael Fors (SDP - Kernsopolis), thus bringing in an SDP majority. The Fair Recall Amendment was defeated and the polls on the Acting Presidents Amendment will open soon.

Legislative election in Cyberia

Cyberia's regularly scheduled mid-term elections happen this Saturday.

Voters will elect three Deputies to the National Assembly.

Citizens must be registered on the cybervote listserv to receive ballots.

The right to know about a right to vote

The Supreme Court has issued ruling in Catchpole v. Electoral Commissioner: the President has a duty to make sure new citizens know how to vote.

Cyberia's special legislative elections have been extended again due to a discrepancy between testimony submitted by President Zachary Anderson and the recently naturalized Liam Reagan.

Question surrounds whether the president told Reagan that his vote in the April midterms would "not matter" and not to bother registering.

Cyberian cabinet confirmed

A resuscitated National Assembly has confirmed several cabinet appointments.

Michael Fors will serve as Deputy President and Minister of Foreign Relations. David Catchpole continues on as Minister of State.

President Zach Anderson twice extended temporary appointments for each. Temporary appointments expire on a date the president fixes unless the Assembly makes them permanent.
